How I Meditate: The Sounds, Sensations, and Rituals I Swear By!

I want to share something with you—parts of my thoughts that rarely share. Let me take you somewhere. A place where time slips away, and all that matters is the soft pulse of your breath, the quiet hum of the world fading into the background. Meditation, for me, isn’t just a practice. It’s an intimate encounter with myself—a seductive dance of mind and body, a private rendezvous where everything else dissolves.

First things first, I make sure nothing can pull me out of this moment. A little bathroom break here, just to make sure I won’t need to get up later. No distractions allowed!

Next, I get comfortable. I keep it simple—Maybe I’ll wear something—loose, soft, nothing too tight because I need to feel free. You’ll rarely catch me lying down; I have a tendency to drift off to sleep if I do. Haha

I put on my headphones. It’s just me and the sound now, everything else—gone. I choose something soft, something that draws me in like a lover’s whisper. Maybe it’s the steady rhythm of rain against a window or the soft flow of a river, a fan humming gently, or the low hum of an air conditioner. Sometimes I’ll let a little meditation music slip in—something light, like the soft sound of a harp or the calming tones of singing bowls. Nothing too complicated. Too many sounds and my mind starts running wild, trying to chase them all at once. But I’ve learned to keep it simple. My mind is active, always racing, but I’ve found a way to make it slow down.

Before I dive in, I take another moment to just breathe . I give thanks for the things that are flowing my way, and then, I loosen up my body with a few stretches and slow deep breathing. I don’t rush this part; it’s about getting my body ready to slip into this stillness.

Then, I focus. I sink into the sound I’ve chosen. I let everything else go. When those stray thoughts creep in—and they always do—I don’t get frustrated. I don’t fight them. Instead, I gently remind myself to focus, like a soft whisper to my soul. It’s okay. I’m okay. I let those thoughts float away like leaves in the wind, and I return to the sound. I can always tell when I’ve hit that sweet spot, when my body softens, my mind clears, and I start to feel this flutter in my stomach, like the initial drop of a rollercoaster, or the lightest float as if I’m weightless.

In these moments, it’s like everything is heightened. I’m so still, so present, that I can feel every inch of myself. Every breath, every sensation feels amplified. My body tingles, and it’s as if I’m waking up from a deep slumber, but I’m not tired. I’m alive in a way that feels almost sensual, like I’m tasting every moment, every sound, every breath. The funny thing is, simultaneously, it's also like I feel nothing at all.

Meditation wasn’t always like this. At first, it was a little frustrating, a bit of a struggle. My mind would race, I’d get distracted, but over time, I learned to embrace the stillness. It’s no longer just a practice; it’s become part of who I am. I try to meditate for about 15 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week. On some days, when I’m wrapped in the warmth of a spiritual bath, candles flickering around me, oils caressing my skin—I linger longer, maybe up to 30 minutes if the mood is right. Doing this while immersed in water, it’s like the meditation seeps deeper into my soul.

It’s more than just a routine now. It’s an experience. A ritual. My lifestyle. A way for me to slow down and really be with myself. And that feeling? That connection to myself? That’s something I’ll always crave and carry with me.

Hmmm...This version combines me with a deep, soulful introspection with a dash of sensuality and lightness.

If you decide to give this a try, I’d absolutely love to hear about your journey. Share your experiences with me—I'm all ears and I can't wait to dive into your stories!
